A few months ago, Ethan joined the DTS students to hear two of YWAM Salem’s own share about Frontier Missions and their preparations for moving to Northern Africa. Afterward, he came home and cried. It’s sobering to hear a newlywed couple share about writing up their wills within the first year of their marriage. “If I die, promise me that you will not leave the people. If you have to remarry and return later to finish the work, then do it. This is what we are committing our lives to.” It made me cry, too, just hearing him retell it. It also made me realize this couple knew what it meant to count the cost. And you know what? After counting the cost and recognizing they could possibly lose their own lives, they felt it was still worth the effort. Wow. What a privilege to serve among people such as this.
It also makes me wonder, how can anyone recognize the infinite value of an immeasurably good God if we continuously limit His worth? Man is worth the Son of God dying on a cross. What is God worth to us? A few hours on Sunday? A moment of acknowledgement as we pray over our food? Whether we realize it or not, our actions and values in life place a price tag on God, and that price tag cause others to see how valuable God is to us. How valuable is God to you?
I think this couple has grasped a truth that is revolutionary. God is worthy. Worthy to be made famous in all the earth. Worthy that every person should hear of His goodness. Worthy to die for, and even more - worthy to be lived for.
