God Moments

We went to the Chinese restaurant (as a family) today. The girls were very excited to try to eat with chopsticks - and they did fairly well. The lady who waited on us was the same lady who had waited on Ethan and I when we went there for Valentine's Day last month. Last time we discovered she is Mongolian, and I imagine she spends most of her time working. (Most of the workers come here because they get room, board, and wages, so of course they work a lot.)

Anyway, Ethan remarked (to me) on how it looked like she could use a friend. I agreed, but wasn't sure what to say to her... Hi. You look like you need a friend. Umm, kind of awkward. Anyway, I had walked up to the counter to pay when she asked if we wanted our fortune cookies. Well, sure! So I called the girls over and gave them each a cookie and had them give one to Ethan as well. While our waitress rung up my order, I read each of the fortunes to the girls, and finished paying. As she slipped away to serve other customers, I opened my cookie to see what it said:

Investigate new possibilities with friends. Now is the time!

Wow. I guess that was the push I needed. I ended up asking if she ever had time off, and Would you like to hang out sometime? She seemed happy that I asked her to hang out, and we ended up setting up a time to get together. It just made me smile to think that I had wanted to connect with her, didn't know how to go about it, and this little piece of paper gave me the courage I needed to do something about it. It made me smile, and for the rest of the day, an old song kept playing in my head:

God loves people more than anything
God loves people more than anything
More than anything He wants them to know.
He'd rather die than let them go
'Cause God loves people more than anything

And you know what? I think it's true - God does love people more than anything. Fortunately for me, I get to be the one who demonstrates that fact...
