Ocean's View
Some people stand on the beach of life with a glass of ocean water, proudly proclaiming - “I’ve discovered the ocean - it’s here, in my glass!” Now that statement is true, partially. Just as no man may hold the ocean all at once, neither do we fully understand all there is to know of God. At any given moment, we may fill our glass and rejoice at the truths God reveals to us. But there must never be a moment in our lives that we feel we have learned all there is to learn - God is infinite, and our discovery of his character, nature, and His love for us as His creation is just as infinite.
There is no excuse for boredom in a Christian’s life. Boredom is a sign we have ceased to explore the depths God has to offer. The tide has intriguing phenomena all its own, but once you get further out into the ocean, you begin to discover an entirely new set of curiosities, as you investigate interesting plant life, fish, and other unique creatures which make the ocean so incredibly intriguing. This parallels our discovery of God. There may be days in our devotional life that we feel we are looking at another glass of salt water, but the further we dare to go, the more there is to see. Only a faithful treading of water, and daily diving in, will eventually lead us to discover the hidden things of God.
Isn’t it wonderful that we have the privilege of knowing the most brilliant Mind of all time? Not only do we have the ability to walk in relationship with this God - that would be wonderful enough, but He has made His wisdom available to us, declaring all we need to do is ask, because He gives freely. Whereas other great minds make profit from their gifts, God Himself has chosen to freely give to any who dare to come close enough to ask of Him. How precious is our Father, how unselfish and worthy is He to be sought. He truly is the treasure in the field, worth selling all to obtain. May we offer nothing less than our all to this Brilliant Father, for He Himself knows the pain of giving His grandest treasure. Let us seek with a desperation and hunger which are deserving of that kind of offering. He truly is worthy.
