Today I was preparing to teach at FHF on worship and I had an illuminating moment. The word worship has several definitions in the original language, one which means to bow down, or prostrate ones self in front of. I realized I have allowed myself to be bowed down over circumstances and problems more than I have allowed myself to be bowed in worship. I have bowed my knees to circumstances and called them Lord by worrying and fretting instead of acknowledging the Lordship of Jesus over those situations. This is sin! No wonder Jesus told us not to worry - when we allow ourselves to worry or walk in fear, we are basically proclaiming that the problem is more powerful than God’s ability to deliver us from it!
Lord, forgive me for walking in fear, anxiety and worry instead of trusting You. You are the Lord, and there is no one like You. You save and deliver, heal and redeem, the Kingdoms of the earth belong to You, and NOTHING in my life can compete with the power You have to deliver. You are able to deliver me from the fire - and even if you don’t, You are still the Lord of all creation, worthy to receive all honor and glory and power, wisdom and strength. Help me to walk in the light of your truth continually, so that my heart will not fail because of fear. I want to fear you more than circumstances or people.
